Suspect In Teacher’s Shooting Found Dead

February 7, 2008
WOMAN! Try woman. She was a woman, a man killed a woman, not just a teacher. She was a woman who was a teacher. The media loves to omit women when men kill/assault/rape/violate, so it will not have two stories, two realities.
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — A teacher’s estranged husband charged into her fifth-grade classroom Thursday morning, then stabbed her as students watched, police said. He fled and authorities said he apparently killed himself at his home after a standoff with police.
I’m glad he is dead. Typical little patriarchal coward who cannot carve out a life without the help of a woman so he felt sorry for himself while trying to assure that the woman who would no longer tolerate him, was annihilated. Minutes before he attacked his estranged wife, he stabbed what now appears as a random woman in an alley. Was that a practice attempt? Please send wishes and prayers for both women to survive. The world will benefit because there will be two living witnesses that survived the tantrum of a soulless self-entitled man. Especially since he is now dead. Dead, dead, dead. What was he doing for the world anyway? And to be so callous and self-centered that he did not care that he was in front of a class room full of students. This is horrific for those children now, but there could be a lesson when the anguish subsides. A lesson if those children are told that what this man did is what many men do, and that is murder and attempt to murder women who dare leave them, a teacher no less (a profession that is not paid enough but is dumped on because it is not a male valued profession, yet throw a male in there and he will act like he is the best thing since Galileo, and the crowd will cheer).

how awful. i’m glad that guy is dead, too. if the two women survive, i’ll be happy for them to not have to fear that man being alive any longer.

what’s tragic is that lesson for the kids is probably going to be obscured. thrown through the patriarchal lens that defends men as really being girls’ heroes. only *some* men are the bad men. here, watch another disney movie. just don’t be a witch, don’t be a step mom (read: don’t leave your man), and you won’t have anything to worry about, my dear child. all the kids are going to know that this man came after their teacher because she left him. one more invitation for the boys to grow up feeling entitled to violence against women if they dare break their heart. one more invitation for girls to grow up in so much fear that they do what the guys want in order to save their lives. *sigh* i can be so cynical. i would love to believe that the lesson learned isn’t the same ol’ vicious circle. it’s so hard for me to believe anything good comes out of violence. 😦

Nothing good ever comes out of violence.

Yes– we need to start labeling cowardly behaviour as cowardly, rather than going about excusing it by pointing to a root cause.

(Behaviour can be caused by something and yet still be cowardly — it isn’t a case of either/or.)

Thanks so much for this post, it just says everything that should be said.

Unfortunately the message given to the children may even be along the lines of “the poor man wasn’t feeling very well and his wife had upset him”.

And, yes, WOMAN! Say woman, when it was a woman who was stabbed. I’m forever banging my head against that particular wall. The patriarchy is so desperate to erase women that it can’t even name them when they are attacked, by extension, by patriarchy.
