PSA: Bitch

February 13, 2009
When a female uses a sexist insult, such as bitch against another female, she is drawing on the power of male supremacy and woman-hatred to keep another female in her place. The use of the word bitch affects ALL women, not just the one woman being called the bitch. Males have used the term bitch to dehumanize females for years. When a female uses dehumanizing language such as bitch, the power of a whole system of oppression is standing behind her and her prejudice. A person does not in fact have to have any power to appeal to sexism, to validate sexist tropes, and to entrench sexist oppression. Anybody can draw on those things to attack a member of an oppressed class, even a member of said oppressed class.

The word bitch precedes the rape, murder and destruction of every woman on Earth.

Wow, thanks for that. This is VERY TRUE. Well-said, Kitty!

I’m so heart-broken seeing women using mysoginistic words against other women just to achieve some sort of ‘popularity’ in a patriarchy. 😦

The patriarchists get off on women calling other women “bitches”. Sick!

The word “bitch” (as the slang insult) is inherently sexist in nature.

And the use of bitch affects ALL women, not just the one woman being called the bitch.

Exactly, Kitty. A point I just made over there. She’s so intellectually dishonest.

Don’t forget that in addition to the “bitches” insult, she also called us “witches”, the other great female put-down:

I will sleep just fine with the full knowledge that I am not welcome in their little coven of inequality.

…whereas I thought *not* calling women “bitches” was like the feminist freshman course–you know, an easy 2 credits, put your name on a piece of paper, turn it in end of semester, get an A…

**AND UH OH!!*** She knows about the Inequality Coven! Who let that shit out?****

    I absolutely LOATHE that word.

Sadly – I am increasingly hearing students at work using the word – many of them women.
