Manufactured Outrage Erases What Happens To Women

March 4, 2009
Yes, sometimes the big picture is more important than the details.

So the AP reports that an arrest warrant has been issued in association with the 2001 murder of Chandra Levy, and either the AP or Yahoo News sticks the report under the headline: “Warrant issued for immigrant in Chandra Levy death.

“For immigrant?”

Cops think they have finally closed the case on the murder of Chandra Levy, thus charging Ingmar Guandique and, what are the big feminist blogs focusing on? The media called the murderer an immigrant! OH-MY-GOD! ZZOMG!!!!111

The media called Rita Cote an illegal immigrant. Where’s the outrage for her? Where is the lesson in racism that all the kitties are waiting to learn?

But, but, but, but, you must understand the nuance [the latest word, since monolith and universal (:D Sparks) have become too blasé and fail to provoke thought while one sips on one’s lukewarm latte]. We must look into every case for hints of trace racism, even the most obtuse in order to get our anti-racist cred. Including the cases that the patriarchy easily absorbs our attempted feminist subversion and then spits out with a double dog dare for us to try again. We must stay on course, even if it makes us disappear the message that MEN MURDER WOMEN!

Ahh, I’m going to need a cigarette after that exhausting work up over the racism poor Guandique has suffered at the hands of the media. The same media/and police who mistreated “illegal immigrant” Rita Cote and hardly anyone cried foul.

“You are such a racist, you act like it is okay to mistreat a man just because he murdered and raped women!”

Whatever. If it is necessary to produce a poster child for manufactured outrage (with good intentions, of course, and yes, all joking aside, it can be a useful tool), is it asking too much for said poster child not to be a man who murders women? Forest, trees, pine needles. {Shrug}

I don’t give a fuck what anyone calls Ingmar Guandique. I don’t care if he is called a moldy cheese eating mangy toothless rat. What he should be called is a murderer. A man who rapes and murders women. A fucking male-terrorist.

If women don’t keep the focus on how men murder women, no one else will.

    My only issue would be that Chandra Levy had enemies in high places. If someone paid Guandique to kill her, I want the payer found. And I want his punishment to be as severe Guandique’s.

    Levy didn’t have any enemies that resorted to this. She had a clumsy lover who was not smart enough to hire anyone, much less protect his own career. Besides Guandique attacked two other women, the same summer, in the same park. He killed her.

    Of course, I would want the other guy to pay too, but I just don’t think it is the case here.

    I should have read the story, but I really don’t like reading stuff like that. I didn’t know he’d murdered other women, or I wouldn’t have made that comment.

    Not murdered, attacked, but I am still searching to see if “attacked” means raped.

    Don’t worry about reading those stories. I will shoulder the burden for us both. LOL! Well, in some cases, not in all. I can’t take the ones involving children.
