Open Thread 29 “The Ugh Edition”

November 6, 2009

Both Margie and I have been too busy to post and comment. Has 2009 blown by or what? And this month is National Novel month. I have about 29 stories that I need to tie together and make a novel. The thing is, I can put you there. I can reveal the misery, but I suck at plot. All plots seem contrive, I swear they do.

Open thread nevertheless. Maybe some lurkers will come out and admit in public that they read us.

So what will happen once you finish the novel?

Probably what all the other losers with an unpublished novel do. Lay around thinking how I could have been a great writer if _____________________, think how if only Oprah could read my novel, and/or perhaps maybe self-published (as a friend of mine did, with little success. Although she wrote a great story, it was very dense, old school European-like, and as we learned in our Fiction Writing class, ain’t no body trying to read shit that is not spoon-fed to them. No one appreciates subtlety in novel form anymore).

Hard on yourself much Kitty? And yeah, no one even reads novels anymore at all, from what I can tell. I’m sure there’s a quote somewhere in Fahrenheit 451 that would be highly appropriate, but I am too lazy to find it!

God, every week, I think to myself “If I could only make it through this week, it’ll all be downhill from there.” Yet, every week, there’s still more of an uphill climb ahead of me.

Oh, and, I fucking hate those goddamn “customer service” answering machines. I hate them with the burn of 25,000 hells.

I read your blog. It’s an inspiration. With you around it helps to resist. Thank you.
