The Divide

March 17, 2010

A prioritization of human female interests is not necessarily advocacy of (male) human stewardship over animals.  It is, quite simply, maintaining a distinction between human females and other animals, one which is biologically determined.  All human females are oppressed by all human males in ways that no other species is.  That is not to say, of course, that human females do not suffer some of the same brutality that other animals suffer in male supremacy, but even when women have been treated as beasts of burden or pests to be exterminated (ie, when we are not rich/educated/white/free to be non-religious/etc.) we have endured the additional injustices of reproductive enslavement.  So, while the biological line between humans and other animals may be slim (or not), it is stark for those women who lead, and have led, the existence of human livestock.

Women who have been corralled into pens (or ghettos, or camps, or brothels), who have been worked from sun up to sun down, who have had the stick at their back and the carrot beyond their grasp (literally, sticks and feeding troughs) – these women have known intimately the difference between themselves and the animals that very often labored (or scavenged, or starved) beside them.  As they were raped, impregnated, infected with human venereal disease, and burdened with an awareness of the social/legal prohibitions against them, as a class, they lived that difference.

This is why it does not surprise me that it’s only ever white, educated, relatively well-off (in a global context) women who enforce a “morality” of animal “rights” and “equality” on the rest of us.  From their position of comfort and distance from most women’s realities (let alone most animals’ realities), they insist on similarity, when the truth is that they are simply too far-removed to perceive the distinction, and the women on the front lines suffer the consequences of their alliance with male supremacy.  Rest assured that it serves male interests to blur the distinction.  After all, if there is no difference between female humans and other animals, then women should consider themselves championed when animal abusers are vilified and punished while rapists, girl-/woman-beaters, and girl-/woman-murderers are ignored at best and glorified at worst.  Why, if we consider laws against bestiality and poaching feminist victories, perhaps it might boost the paltry conviction rates for crimes against womenanimals!

I have a problem picking up dog shit. It is degrading to pick up the shit from an animal that is beneath me. Perhaps, it would not feel so degrading if I were further removed from the reality of being treated like an animal. But as it stands now, no, I don’t find it a simple thing to do. I find it degrading. Not to mention how I feel putting something that should go back into the ground into a plastic bag. That is just stupid. I don’t think a dog needs to be in the house under my ass. Why should I be subjected to the hair of a dog, an animal beneath me. Why should I have to clean away the hair of an animal. No, it is not the same as cleaning away my hair or my child’s hair or any other my friends or family’s hair. It is the hair of a dog. And if you worry about a dog crossing the street safely and not care two straws if I can cross safely, you can kiss my ass.

And, you know, regardless of whether or not there’s a hierarchy of over/under, the dog is still not human!!! It really is beyond me how women can feel more responsibility toward a dog than toward other female human beings.

I mean, they do realize that dogs once got along entirely without human intervention, right? That has never been the case for girls, and it never will. There is a difference, and wishing you were a dolphin or whatever doesn’t change that.

And you know the story is famous around here, it is etched in my brain for all of eternity. That story being how prostitutes (no, not the choice kind) were pushed aside to save an orangutan. WTF!

Or, how about the Kenyan women prevented from killing the chimpanzees who were threatening them while they worked? These women were certain that the chimpanzees would eventually end up raping one of them, yet animal rights trumped their own.

However, you know our society is becoming more and more literal, more and more black and white. As far as intellectual discourse, its seems to be time for a Renaissance. Because keep talking like this and it suddenly becomes that you (and I) are the poster child of cock fights, pit bull fights, poaching minks, and slaughtering goats so fashion designers can feel warm blood dripping from the banquet tables on the opening night of the next Twilight premiere.

I hate writing this fucking disclaimer, but I am just so sick of the willful misconstruction. We can feel as we do and still have pets, love our pets, and not involve ourselves in the annual fox hunt.

The very need for the above disclaimer is evidence of fascism penetrating our daily interactions. If you are not the sapping and moaning PC twit fighting on the front lines for the ethical treatment of using half naked women to save a few rodents then by default you are the blood thirsty Attila, king of the Huns and is more than willing to drive around town in your used Honda shooting innocent tree squirrels.

      LMAO!

Sigh… and isn’t it interesting that white “radfems,” who are key champions of animal rights, are some of the most vilely racist themselves towards black women? I always find myself confused… I mean we are animals in their eyes, no? I guess while we black women are not human or “real women” like the kind white ladies, we’re not animal enough for them to care about either…

Well off white women have nothing better to do than lament about the treatment of animals, mean while there are 3 year old girls being raped, women being beaten/raped/murdered around the world. These women are voiceless, faceless, and hopeless and a goddamn dog is more important. *shakes head*

I’ve noticed the exact same thing, sis. A white woman commenting at Twisty’s, I think, actually left a comment saying that she first started advocating for animals, then(white) women (of course, she didn’t say white women, but that’s what she meant), then black “people” (see, if she’d meant all women, this last “project” of hers would have been black MEN, since, presumably women would have included black women too, but, no).

I guess she’ll eventually get around to understanding just how self-hating and offensive her priorities are, in addition to noticing that women aren’t just white and blacks aren’t just men.

OK, now you really want “feminists” to hate you.

    😛

And how absolutely fucking gross that this even had to be said?!?! If feminism now means concerning oneself with animals and sucking the dicks (tranny) males, what the hell exists to fight for the rights and freedoms of females?

Re: Animal Rights trumping women’s human rights,

Check out some of those [white] pro-PETA “feminist” blogs. They blog more about animal “liberation” than women’s liberation. All that effort and passionate investment that could have been channeled into actively promoting and working towards women’s liberation and human rights, is spent on promoting PETA’s latest pornographic, misogynist, racist ad campaign to “save” which ever animal. Nothing wrong with promoting ethical treatment for animals and condemning animal abuse (or being a vegan or vegitarian), but these PETA “feminists”?! I “love” my cats, but they’re animals, not women. Some of these “feminists” even have the audacity to place animal suffering on par (or even higher) with the systematic enslavement of Africans and the Holocaust, but am I really surprised that a bunch of white fun-“feminists” would do that? No…
