Talk About Trigger Warnings

August 15, 2010

Both of these commercials should have trigger warnings.

How serendipitous. I was just talking about nail fungus the other day. I was also in the process of writing a post about triggering.

Okay both those things traumatize me to think about (I am not making fun of trauma, by the way, but I am making fun of how freaked-the-fuck-out I am by fears of any part of my body going awry), but I have to say that first guy – there’s a shot of him where he’s all shrug-y, I think it’s from a print ad maybe, and my sister off-and-on makes it her Facebook photo, and I fucking love it. If he were in any other context where people weren’t talking about that subject matter, he’d be considered a cute monster, rather than the stuff on his head reminding people of fungus and decay, etc.

Oh, god, I know, Joan. I hate thinking of viruses and fungi living in my skin.

Me too. And every time these two commercials come on t.v., I’m always taken aback and demand my fucking trigger warning. I want a fucking trigger warning damn it!

Again, so its not just me who gets uncontrollably itchy when these commercials come on!? Yes! Lol

I always mute the tv and block my eyes when this mess comes on. Lol I agree, it should have a trigger warning.

(And yeah I kno I said I wouldn’t be around as much, but a girl needs some kind of safe haven for her mind every now and then.) 🙂

Why should there be a trigger warning? Are we supposed to forget about the existence of disease?
