AROOO’s Future

February 10, 2011

From now on AROOO will be about movies and television shows viewed with a feminist perspective by a single author. Postings may be few and far between.

There always comes a time when a course must change its direction.

Or maybe Nina Simone’s version is more appropriate for AROOO (I was only 2 when it came out! 🙂

Most people seem to have a preconceived notion that television and movies are limited and lack benefit. However, I don’t see what difference there is to discussing some of the same topics we have discussed here before, but using a specific movie/show as the example instead of some fabricated in-general example. Besides the in-general examples tend to make people feel as if they are being talked about specifically. There is a psychological advantage with films/movies/television that can help most people examine social context without being impeded by a personal attachment.

As my mom used to say, “there’s more than one way to skin a cat”. (Disclaimer: no cats were harmed in the making of the previous statement.)

One problem though. Only those of us who have seen the movie / tv show can discuss it.

      ‘Sawright. I don’t mind listening.

This is true for the details of a particular show/movie/film or even book, but not necessarily so for the general sense of the discussion/criticism. To me, the story (in whatever form) is the springboard. Unless the person facilitating is a stickler for maintaining strict topic integrity, in which, I am not.

None of those marvelously written E. K. Glendower stories, then?
